Development opportunity for Gannawarra sporting clubs

Local sporting clubs are encouraged to apply to take part in a club development program that will help identify issues and determine future priorities as part of the Gannawarra community’s recovery from the October-December 2022 floods.

The Gannawarra Community Resilience Committee has engaged Sports Focus to investigate the impact the October-December floods had on sporting clubs, their participants, and the broader community, with two clubs to be selected to work one-on-one with Sports Focus on a club development program during this 12-month opportunity.

“Many of the Gannawarra’s sporting clubs supported their communities during the response phase of the October-December 2022 floods, as well as with recovery efforts,” Council Chief Executive Officer, Geoff Rollinson said.

The sporting clubs selected to participate in the program will be asked to identify current issues, such as volunteer fatigue, burdens of regulations or reduced membership. This information will assist to determine future priorities and guide the development of an action plan that the clubs can implement with support from Sports Focus.

“The project will help determine how the two clubs are positioned and what role they can play in supporting the health and wellbeing of their participants and the broader community into the future,” Mr Rollinson said.

“This program is one way we can give back to our sporting clubs, who do an amazing job in keeping our residents healthy and connected.”

Funding is supported by the Victorian and Commonwealth Governments under the Commonwealth-State Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements (DRFA) as part of the Gannawarra Community Flood Recovery Program.
