Feedback invited for first Youth Strategy
Alpine Shire 16 Aug 2022

Alpine Shire Council is proud to join a number of organisations, schools and community groups to form Communities that Care Alpine, a group dedicated to the health and wellbeing of local children and young people.

The group has developed a Draft Alpine Shire Youth Strategy which is available now for community feedback.

Alpine Shire Mayor Sarah Nicholas said Council wants to hear from local young people, their carers, and those who care about them.

“The draft was developed with the help of many wonderful Alpine Shire young people, carers, teachers and organisations,” she said.

“The strategy recognises that young people in Alpine Shire are unique and diverse individuals with a wide range of identities, needs and priorities.

“We want our local young people to tell us if the strategy is reflective of what matters to them.

“This is your strategy, it will drive actions to support you into the future - it’s essential that it meets your needs.”

The strategy sets the direction for the next three years, guiding Communities that Care Alpine and its partners’ efforts to cultivate resilience, wellbeing and opportunities for young people and their families.

Cr Nicholas said the strategy establishes a clear focus for Communities that Care Alpine and identifies the group’s role, priorities, and initiatives to create the greatest positive impact for young people in the Alpine Shire.

“When given opportunities, young people bring passion, energy, and creativity to the whole community,” she said.

“They’re an important part of our community with their own unique set of opportunities and challenges.

“To deliver on the priorities set out in the Youth Strategy, collaboration across the community is critical, as well as the participation, contribution, enthusiasm and the voice of young people.”
