The community is invited to help shape the future of Croydon by contributing their ideas and providing feedback as part of a long-term vision for the area.

Croydon is designated as a Major Activity Centre (MAC), which is a priority of the Victorian Government’s blueprint for Melbourne’s growth as detailed in Plan Melbourne 2017-2050, and is to be the focus of substantial development, growth and investment.

The Croydon Major Activity Centre Structure Plan (the Structure Plan) is the current guiding document for Council, stakeholders and the community.

An update to the Structure Plan is now underway to ensure future development and enhancement of the centre continues to meet the community’s needs, desires and aspirations.

To help us develop an update to the structure plan, the community is invited to share their views and feedback on the discussion paper on Issues and opportunities, which has been prepared to explore future opportunities for Croydon. This includes opportunities for housing, business, environment, urban design, transport and community infrastructure.

Consultation closes Friday 14 May 2021.

Mayor of Maroondah, Councillor Kylie Spears, said the updated structure plan would incorporate up-to-date evidence, research and community input.

“In 2006, Council prepared the first structure plan for Croydon. A lot has happened since then. We are now checking back in with the community to review and update the Plan to ensure it meets current social, environmental and economic challenges and opportunities,” Cr Spears said.

“The purpose of Croydon as a Major Activity Centre is to create a well-designed, sustainable and vibrant centre that reflects the area’s local character, promotes walking, cycling and the use of public transport, while encouraging local employment, community life and housing diversity,” she said.

“Activity centres are important elements of Melbourne’s long-term plan to promote and manage growth sustainably, and I encourage the community to provide feedback on the discussion paper as well as other ideas for how we can enhance Croydon’s town centre.

“We want you to share your local perspectives and suggestions so that together we can continue to build on Croydon as a great place to live, work and visit. There will also be further opportunities for community input once a draft of the plan is developed, ” Cr Spears added.
