233 Given Terrace, Paddington Friday, October 16 – Tuesday, November 17, 2020 Adderton Everywhere is a series of innovative and exciting exhibitions, workshops, installations and events in surprising public spaces from Adderton: house & heart of mercy. The Dirty Laundry Day Project is being held in Queensland for the first time through Adderton Everywhere, supported by Brisbane City Council. The Dirty Laundry Day Project was created to draw attention to Domestic and Family Violence (DFV) in the community, to give people experiencing abuse and violence a voice, and to take a strong community stance against violence. The name came from the opportunity for people to air their dirty laundry – removing stigma and opening conversations in our communities.A series of workshops provides a creative and cathartic opportunity for DFV survivors to share their experience by painting messages on t-shirts. For many survivors, even those closest to them don’t know about their experience because DFV is often hidden and prospers in silence. The workshops are a safe way for people to express their feelings anonymously in a supported environment.Adderton Everywhere’s exhibition of the work will be prominently displayed in public spaces from October to December 2020.Adderton Everywhere will use empty shopfronts for temporary art exhibitions, supported by Council’s Suburban Shopfront Activation program, which encourages the use of vacant shopfronts by emerging businesses.Find out more about the exhibition.
