Monday, November 9, 2020, 5am – 1pm Brisbane City Council acknowledges the importance of NAIDOC Week to Aboriginal and Torres Strait peoples and supports a variety of events held throughout the city. NAIDOC Week is usually celebrated in the first full week of July each year (5-12 July 2020). The National NAIDOC Committee postponed NAIDOC Week 2020 to November this year in the interest of community safety due to COVID.NAIDOC Week is being held from the 8-15 November this year.NAIDOC Week celebrations are held across Australia each year to celebrate the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people with each year having a theme. This year the theme is 'Always Was, Always Will Be.'Brisbane Indigenous Media Association (BIMA) will produce seven hours of continuous live broadcast on 989FM, the National Indigenous Radio Service (NIRS) and NITV – including a live stream of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander dance troupes’ traditional song and dance.A designated broadcast marquee and a small seating area will be visible to members of the public to interact with the live radio and video broadcast as well as observe traditional dancing and live musical performances. There will be a small technical crew on sight to facilitate the broadcast and video recordings as well as COVID safety officers to ensure COVID restrictions are upheld. 989FM will be partnering with NITV to share and cross promote the video streams to engage with wider audiences online and allow greater participation and overall celebration.
