Lismore pool gets ready to make a splash

Works have commenced at the Lismore Pool, where a new wet deck and pipework will be installed ready for the summer season.

The project has been funded by Global Power Generation (GPG) and Corangamite Shire Council. Berrybank Windfarm developer GPG has committed to $3 million to projects identified by communities as high priorities.

They include:

Northern Towns Tourism Project Lismore public art project Derrinallum recreation reserve upgrade Skipton recreation reserve upgrade Darlington Hall restoration

Farley Pools will deliver the project which will see the high concrete walls of the pool cut down and levelled. It will be replaced with a drain system that allows water to spill into a balance tank under the paving and filter back into the pool. The project has been a community priority in the Lismore community plan since 2012.

Removing the raised edges will make the pool safer and easier for people to get in and out. It will streamline the pool design without losing any of its much loved retro charm and mid-century personality.

According to Farley pools Managing Director Peter Farley: “A wet deck conversion will transform the Lismore Pool and benefit the users. It will modernise the facility, allow for greater access and provide better water quality and reduce chemical use”.

“The Lismore pool has pride of place in the town, for both visitors passing through as well as for locals. It is not just an important social hub, and a place to cool down but one of the town’s best assets for getting people outdoors and keeping active during summer. It gives families a place to learn swimming skills for life”.

“The Lismore Pool is highly visible from the road and a conversion to a wet deck will not only be a valuable asset for users, but will go a long way towards contributing to the look and feel of the town,” Corangamite Shire CEO Andrew Mason said.

Farley Pools will finish the works as quickly as is safe and feasible and the wet deck is expected to be completed in time for the summer season.
