Libraries may be closed - but book borrowing is about to begin once more!

Two new online services have just been launched to allow book lovers to access City of Darwin library books. The two services include Click and Collect, which all book readers are encouraged to access, and a Home Delivery service, targeting readers who are more vulnerable in our community.

Lord Mayor Kon Vatskalis said he was delighted staff had embraced innovative ways to deliver services even whilst the Australian Government guidelines meant libraries could not be physically open to the public.

“Book reading under normal circumstances is a pleasure, an indulgence and during this challenging time book reading has become so important – as an escape, to pass time, to teach and to learn.”

“Even though City of Darwin has closed a number of our facilities to meet Australian Government guidelines in response to COVID-19, we continue to deliver essential and valued services to the community.”

“We have welcomed new ways to engage with and deliver the services our community loves.”

The Click and Collect service will allow readers to select and order items online and collect, once they are available, from either the City Library or Casuarina Library, between 10am and 5.30pm on weekdays. On arrival at the library readers call the library branch phone number and book orders will be brought out.

The Home Delivery service is a collaboration between City of Darwin and Tennis NT, with books delivered directly to vulnerable readers. Readers can choose from the online catalogue on our website, choose Click and Collect service and the Delivery option, or call direct. Items will be delivered by Tennis NT volunteers on Friday mornings between 9am and 12noon.

Tennis NT General Manager Sam Gibson said “The thoughts of Tennis NT are with the community at this time and we are pleased to be supporting this great service that aims to help vulnerable Territorians.”
