The roles are open to anyone from the Darwin community who has lost their job as a result of COVID-19 and the key prerequisite is a ‘can do’ attitude.

The Green Army will be tasked with a broad range of maintenance, cleaning and landscaping tasks, aimed at beautifying suburban landscapes across the city.

Recruitment will be through four agencies – Corestaff, Randstad, Hays and Synaco.

Lord Mayor Kon Vatskalis said the concept of a Green Army had received unanimous support from Elected Members.

“This initiative was supported by Council with a $1M budget allocation and will provide 40,000 hours of work for people who have recently been made unemployed as a result of COVID-19.”

“We recognise that many people in our community are hurting right now – they are worried about their finances and their families.”

“These job opportunities will go some way toward allaying these concerns and will have the added benefit of providing training.”

As part of the Green Army initiative training to achieve a white card will be provided for those who do not already have this certificate, with workers eligible for a white card on completion of their training.   For further information go to:  https://www.darwin.nt.gov.au/council/about-council/careers/green-army
