Final Stage of Lakeside Drive Upgrade Underway

The second and final stage of the Lakeside Drive Upgrade is due to commence on 5 May 2020. The entire project, valued at $3.8M, has been jointly funded by City of Darwin and the Australian Governments’ Road to Recovery Program.

Letters have been sent to all residents advising them of the works and signage erected.

Upgrades to the 50 year old road were spread across two stages to reduce the impact on road users as much as possible with Stage 1, valued at $1.1M, completed in March 2019.

The final stage of the project, from Stasinowsky Street to Dripstone Road Roundabout, is expected to be completed in September 2020.

Roadworks will include road resurfacing and upgrades to pedestrian and bicycle crossing points, which will enhance the roadway for all users.

Lord Mayor Kon Vatskalis said “City of Darwin maintains more than 450km of roadways across the city and Lakeside Drive is a Priority 1 Roadway for emergency vehicles.”

“Ongoing investment is critical to ensure all our roads meet the standard and expectations of all road users.”

Local Darwin construction company DTA Contractors completed Stage 1 and won the tender for Stage 2.

DTA Managing Director, David Divilly says “We are pleased to have been awarded Stage 2 of the Lakeside Drive Upgrade, particularly as local contractors are working hard to get through the current environment, as a result of COVID-19.”

Traffic management will be in place for the duration of the works with detours, including temporary bus stops and bus detours.
