Work has begun to upgrade Glenora Road between Gordon River Road and New Norfolk and is estimated to continue through until mid March 2020 subject to weather, resources and working conditions.

This important project is being funded by a Tasmanian Government Grant of $2.5m as part of the Roads Package to Support Tasmania’s Visitor Economy. The project will enable the long awaited and greatly needed upgrade of Glenora Road, a major thoroughfare for residents and tourists visiting the Derwent Valley.

To reduce the overall number of days where works will be carried out, there will be multiple sites along the 17km from Gordon River Road to New Norfolk at any one time. A 70 kph speed limit will be in place for the entire stretch of road for the duration of the project for safety of motorists and workers.

While the contractor will aim to have both lanes open wherever possible during peak times, there will be single lane closures throughout the works period and delays of up to 15 minutes may be experienced where required for safety.

The alternate route between the Glenora Rd/Gordon River Road intersection and New Norfolk via Lyell Highway will not be affected and will be open as usual with no speed restrictions.
