Small cell means big coverage for Duaringa

Posted on April 9, 2019

Duaringa residents will have better mobile coverage thanks to installation of a 4GX Small Cell in Duaringa this April.

Central Highlands Regional Council received notice from Telstra that the system will significantly enhance the coverage area. Providing access to high-speed mobile data, the system will improve fast internet browsing, video streaming, social media and mobile office use.

Councillor Charles Brimblecombe said it is great news for people in and around Duaringa.

‘We have been told that it should overcome a large part of current limitations, including reception around the railway line,’ Cr Brimblecombe said.

‘Council supports Telstra’s investment in the region and continuously advocates for better connectivity, including projects part of the Australian Government’s Mobile Black Spot Program.

‘It is great to see this outcome for Duaringa.’

A small cell is a miniature version of a standard base station and is used to boost coverage and capacity in regional and rural communities where a full-sized base station would not be feasible.
