Council Pop-up Coming to Thorpdale

Baw Baw Shire Council’s first Council pop-up is coming to Thorpdale later this month.

Council pop-up is a new rural outreach program which aims to increase Council’s presence in a range of areas across the municipality, particularly those further from major townships.

Council pop-up is being run as a pilot from April - December this year. Thorpdale has been identified as the first location.

When: 10.00am - 2.00pm on Tuesday 16 April Where: Thorpdale Public Hall, 14 Johnstone Street

Later in the year the program will also travel to Neerim, Willow Grove, Rawson and Longwarry. Residents in these communities and surrounding areas will be able to drop-in and talk with Councillors and members of the Executive team.

The motion to support the program was moved by East Ward Cr Michael Leaney and seconded by East Ward Cr Darren Wallace at the 13 March Council meeting.

This initiative builds other collaborative projects such as the Placemaking Program and Community Hubs Strategy which are led by the community to improve spaces and strengthen connectedness.

Quotes attributable to East Ward Cr Michael Leaney

“Baw Baw Shire is a big place with a huge portion of ratepayers and residents living outside of major townships. This is a great opportunity to break down barriers with our smaller and more rural communities and help make Council more accessible to everyone – no matter where they live.”

Quotes attributable to East Ward Cr Peter Kostos

“We highly encourage people living in and around Thorpdale to come along and have a chat with Councillors and members of the Executive team. We welcome community members to ask questions, share ideas and provide us with feedback on matters affecting you and your community.”

Quotes attributable to CEO Alison Leighton

“Councillors and the Executive team are committed to improving community connections, communication and engagement in all areas of Baw Baw Shire. We want to work alongside communities to better deliver the services and support that matter most.”

“Council pop-up provides an open-door environment for anyone to get in touch with us. Of course, feedback is not limited to these sessions – residents are always encouraged to get in touch with Council if you have any questions or feedback – we’re here to help.”
