Regionally significant sport and active recreation events to be held in the Gladstone Region between April to August this year can now apply for Gladstone Regional Council Sport & Recreation Event Grant funding.

Gladstone Region Mayor Matt Burnett said submissions for Council's Regional Sport & Recreation Event Grant opened on February 1 and would be accepted until midnight on February 28.

"The program assists not-for-profit organisations, sporting clubs, community groups and businesses to deliver significant events which have the potential to attract a large number of visitors to our region," Councillor Burnett said.

Applicants can apply for funding of up to $3000 for events being held in the Gladstone Region between April 1 and August 31.

Deputy Mayor Chris Trevor said Council funding supported the attraction of high-level sporting events to the region.

"We’ve had many successful applicants deliver significant events within our region thanks to this funding, including inter-city sporting carnivals and championship level sports," Cr Trevor said.

Applicants are encouraged to discuss their proposed event with Council's Sport and Recreation section prior to applying.

Grant application guidelines are available on Council's website at www.gladstone.qld.gov.au/sport-and-recreation-funding under the 'Apply Now' column.

The link will re-direct to a website for online application submissions.
