In an attempt to find loving family homes, the Campaspe Animal Shelter is offering reduced fee cat adoptions and a discounted microchipping service for all pets on Saturday, 8 December at Pets Domain Echuca.

Public Environments Manager Kate Lemon said there is a high demand for the homing of cats at this time of year due to their breeding cycle and as such cat and kitten adoptions at this event have been reduced.

“The event aims to help reduce the numbers at the shelter by not only finding loving homes for cats and dogs, but ensuring all pets in the community are microchipped so they can be identified in the event of them going missing,” Ms Lemon said.

Between 10am – 2pm, residents can have their existing pets microchipped for $30. Shelter cats can be adopted for $60, kittens $120 and dogs $355. All animals are desexed, microchipped and vaccinated. They have also been assessed as having good temperaments, making them suitable for rehoming. Council registration fees are not included in this price and must be paid for separately.

“Whilst cats and dogs make great companions, individuals and families must understand that it’s a long term commitment with most animals living for many years,” Ms Lemon said.

The Campaspe Animal Shelter takes in lost, seized or surrendered cats and dogs, providing them with temporary home and care. Finding loving homes for each of them is the ultimate goal.

If adoption is not an option, the Campaspe Animal Shelter asks the community to help advocate for the many fury friends desperate for a place to call home by sharing facebook posts and spreading the word.

The Campaspe Animal Shelter is open seven days a week at varying times. Cats, kittens and dogs up for adoption can be viewed via the following:
