19 November 2018 - Media release

Campaspe Shire Council is calling for Expressions of Interest to lease a large parcel of land at 103-175 McKenzie Street, Echuca, traditionally known as the Back 9 Golf Course, for up to 21 years.

Mayor, Cr Adrian Weston said the site, a mix of council owned and crown land adjacent to the Campaspe River, also offers an existing administration building and a range of storage sheds. The site is subject to a flood overlay and part of the land also has cultural significance.

“The site has been traditionally operating as a golf course for a number of years,” Cr Weston said.

“Following the departure of long-term lessee in January 2018, a 12 month licence agreement was provided to the Echuca Neighbourhood House. In offering this short-term agreement, council committed to an open expression of interest process for ongoing use and management of the site, which is now underway.”

Whilst opening up for expressions, any future use put forward needs to meet any restrictions of the site, particularly the flood overlay and cultural heritage.

Expressions of Interest will be assessed in line with five assessment criteria, being:

Community benefit Economic benefit Facility use and sustainability Local content Annual rental

To assist, council is holding an onsite meeting where prospective applicants can inspect the facilities and discuss opportunities and constraints. The onsite meeting has been scheduled for Tuesday, 27 November at 10.30am, with applicants to register prior to the meeting.

The Expression of Interest document is available on council’s website, through the tender section, and closes on Tuesday, 18 December.
