Vote for innovative choir in National Awards for Local Government

Redland City Council is calling on the community to get behind a Council initiative that uses the power of music to support people living with dementia.
The Sing Sing Sing Redlands Choir has been nominated in the 2024 National Awards for Local Government, and this innovative choir needs your vote.
The awards are administered by the Australian Government’s Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development, Communications and the Arts, with the Sing Sing Sing Redlands Choir nominated in the Creativity and Culture category.
Mayor Jos Mitchell said the awards were decided by public vote and were an annual celebration of local government achievements across Australia.
“Sing Sing Sing Redlands choir is an extraordinary program that is helping to create a more compassionate and connected community,” she said.
“More than 200 participants have been supported within the first four weeks of the program, demonstrating a positive social outcome for people living with dementia and their carers, who often experience extreme isolation.”
The program has been developed in collaboration with Brisbane musical director Melissa Gill and hosted by Council’s Redland Performing Arts Centre.
“Sing Sing Sing ticks all the criteria for the national awards,” the Mayor said.
“It is innovative, makes a real difference in the community and demonstrates outcomes that are replicable across the country.
“This nomination recognises the efforts of Council staff in successfully creating a space where all participants are given the opportunity to create meaningful connections, in line with Council’s ongoing commitment to fostering inclusivity and accessibility.
“The public vote process of these awards is an excellent opportunity to promote this program across Australia.”
Members of the community are encouraged to show their support for Sing Sing Sing by voting on the National Awards for Local Government website. Voting closes on Friday 26 April 2024.
The winners will be announced in July to coincide with the Australian Local Government Association’s National General Assembly and the Australian Council of Local Government.
