New mayor and councillors elected to lead Central Highlands Regional Council

The Central Highlands Regional Council held its post-election meeting today, after new and returning councillors were sworn in for the 2024-2028 term.

Incoming Mayor Councillor Janice Moriarty congratulated her colleagues and said she was excited about working together to bring a fresh approach to the leadership of the Central Highlands.

‘We have five new councillors and three returning councillors, and of course myself as the new mayor,’ Cr Moriarty said.

‘Each brings unique perspectives, expertise, and a deep-rooted passion for the betterment of our region. I’m really looking forward to working with the team to bring about a brighter future for the Central Highlands. We’re very fortunate that the community has placed their trust and faith in us.’

First on today’s meeting agenda was the election of Deputy Mayor, with Cr Rachael Cruwys appointed to the role.

Council then discussed its ongoing meeting schedule, electing to hold one general council meeting a month, as well appointments to external and internal boards and committees. Details of these will be made available on council’s website.
