Two Redland City SES Unit volunteers win state awards

Two Redland City State Emergency Service (SES) Unit volunteers have been recognised with state awards.

Anne-Marie Bennett has received the Women in Fire and Emergency Services Award for outstanding leadership in supporting, promoting or improving the interests and wellbeing of women in Queensland Fire and Emergency Services (QFES).

Tim Willis has received the Olga Wilson Peer Support Officer Award for his outstanding work in assisting with the mental health of members and mentoring other Peer Support Officers.

Anne-Marie joined as an SES volunteer in 1998 and moved through the ranks to become the first female team leader in the Redland City SES Unit.

She is a Leading Field Operations Officer who has been involved in the Unit’s recruitment and training program for many years, empowering members with the skills and confidence to succeed as she encourages gender equity.

Anne-Marie’s passion is first aid and she has created a strong focus on training and mentoring within this space.

She has been mentoring women in the Redland City SES Unit for more than 25 years, encouraging them to step up. The Unit now has more than 40 female volunteers.

Tim has been a member of the Redland City SES Unit since 2014.

He is a Leading Field Operations Operator and has assisted members within the Unit as well as across Queensland and interstate as a Peer Support Officer (PSO).

Tim is the PSO Co-ordinator for Brisbane Region and plays a key role in supporting the network of PSOs.

Redland City SES Unit will be recruiting new members in April.
