Saturday, February 10, 2024, 9am – 12pm Urban Sketching encourages people to see their city anew, and focus on some often overlooked elements of architecture and ecology. It is the act of drawing the environment around you through direct observation. This half day sketching tour will guide you through pockets of Brisbane City, teaching you key skills on how to observe, draw and capture the world around you through Urban Sketching.Participants will be given a clipboard, paper and pencil and pen to carry, as the group is guided through selected sites in Brisbane, teaching them to hone their observation skills, to notice the often overlooked architecture and plants around them. You do not need to have any past skills in drawing or urban sketching – this workshop is all about learning to capture what is in front of you, and introduce you to the joy of urban sketching for fun and pleasure.Your facilitator for the session will be Peter Richards Peter Richards is a South-East Queensland based architect, urban designer, teacher, and a principal of Archipelago Architects. Peter has utilised drawing to drive his professional practice and teaching for 40 years. He is the author and publisher of the book DesignThinkingDrawing (2018), which is an advocacy for and demonstration of how drawing can inform design processes. He has conducted more than twenty DesignThinkingDrawing training workshops throughout Australia to over 300 people. Since 2017, he has been an active member of the urban sketching community with Urban Sketchers Brisbane. He has drawn with urban sketching groups throughout Australia and overseas.Requirements: This workshop will require approximately 1 kilometre of walking. Come prepared with a water bottle, hat and sunscreen.
