Charters Towers Regional Council is pleased to announce the launch of the 2024 Young Endeavour Scholarship, providing a unique opportunity for local youth to embark on an unforgettable maritime adventure aboard the renowned Young Endeavour sail ship.

The scholarship program aims to empower and inspire young individuals aged between 16 and 23 who reside within the Charters Towers region by offering a fully-funded placement on a life-changing voyage.

The Young Endeavour, operated by the Royal Australian Navy, is a world-class sail training ship that fosters personal development, leadership skills, and a deep appreciation for teamwork.

Key Details:

•           Application close 4pm, Friday 23 February 2024

•           Open to residents of the Charters Towers Region aged 16 to 23

•           Voyage leaving Mackay 6 May and arriving Cairns 16 May 2024

•           The scholarship covers all costs while aboard the ship but does not include travel to and from the departure port.

The successful scholarship recipient will experience an immersive ten-day sailing voyage, participating in all aspects of shipboard life, including navigation, setting sails, climbing the mast, and standing watch.

This hands-on experience is designed to challenge and develop leadership, communication, and teamwork skills, providing a unique opportunity for personal growth.

Chief Executive Officer, Martin Drydale, expressed enthusiasm for the initiative, stating, "The Charters Towers Regional Council is committed to investing in the future of our young community members.  The Young Endeavour Scholarship is an incredible opportunity for local youth to gain valuable life skills, build lasting friendships, and create memories that will last a lifetime."

The selection process will involve a thorough review and interviews by a panel.

Applications will close 4pm Friday, 23 February 2024.
