To assist with the storm clean up, free of charge disposal of storm-related green waste has been extended until the end of this weekend, Sunday, 14 January. 

All storm-related green waste material will be accepted, big or small. You may be directed to different areas for disposal of your material. Please follow directions given by our staff. 

Load limits for storm-related green waste have also been waived during this time. All other load limits apply.

There will be no charge for storm-related green waste disposal on the following dates:  

Porepunkah Pit 

Open this week: Friday, 12 January

12pm – 3pm   

Mount Beauty Transfer Station

Open this week: Thursday, Saturday and Sunday

10am – 2pm   

Myrtleford Transfer Station

Open this week: Thursday, Saturday and Sunday

10am – 3pm

Our crews have been working hard since Wednesday night to ensure storm-impacted areas of the Kiewa Valley are safe. 

They will now take a well-earned pause over the weekend to continue clean-up and removal of debris and fallen trees on Monday.

The storm response is an incredible example of the work that can be achieved when agencies, local businesses and the community work hand-in-hand – well done and thank you to everyone involved! 

3.45pm Friday, 5 January 2024 Tawonga Gap Road Reopened

Tawonga Gap Road has reopened to vehicles and cyclists. Please take care when driving/riding the road.

11.05am Friday, 5 January 2024 Mount Beauty Transfer Station Reopening

Mount Beauty Transfer Station will reopen today Friday, 5 January 2024 from 12pm – 3pm.  

There will be no charge for storm-related green waste disposal on the following dates: 

Friday, 5 January   Saturday, 6 January  Sunday, 7 January 

All green waste material will be accepted, big or small. You may be directed to different areas  for disposal of your material. Please obey directions given by our staff.

12.30pm Thursday, 4 January 2024 Mount Beauty Transfer Station Update - Closed due to storm damage

As a result of storm damage overnight, the Mount Beauty Transfer Station will be closed until further notice.

Please obey all signage and traffic management in place. Do not access the site.

We are working on finding an alternative green waste drop off site in the Kiewa Valley. If we are able to find another location, we will update this post.

Green waste can still be disposed of at Porepunkah Pit and Myrtleford Transfer Station. There will be no charge for storm-related green waste disposal on the following dates:

Open: Thursday, 4 January and Friday 5 January

Enter from Station Street/Back Porepunkah roundabout.

Myrtleford Transfer Station

Open: Thursday, 4 January, Saturday 6 January and Sunday, 7 January.

Road closures caused by storm damage 10.45am Thursday, 4 January 2024

The Kiewa Valley and surrounding areas have been severely impacted as a result of last night's storm.  

There are a high number of trees and powerlines down as well as road closures. The SES, CFA, AusNet Services and Council crews are working diligently to clear affected areas, but to ensure everyone remains safe, it’s important that you stay home.

Alpine Shire Council asks that all residents and visitors remain clear of affected areas and only leave your home or accommodation if necessary.
