Celebrate the Sir John Gorton Library's 20th birthday

Celebrations will occur on Friday, 15 September to mark the 20th birthday of one of Kerang’s iconic buildings.

The Gannawarra Library Service is holding an afternoon of events to mark 20 years since the opening of Kerang’s Sir John Gorton Library, with something on offer for everyone.

“Since its opening in 2003, residents and visitors have embraced Kerang’s library, named after Sir John Gorton, a former Shire of Kerang president who went on to become the 19th Prime Minister of Australia,” Gannawarra Shire Council Chief Executive Officer, Geoff Rollinson said.

“The building itself is also a local icon, with the building designed as a stack of books leaning against each other providing a point of difference compared to other libraries and public spaces in the region.”

Celebrations will occur from 3pm-6pm, with attractions including a rock-climbing wall, Northern District Community Health’s outdoor games, face painting and a Small Age Rampage Disco. The Rotary Club of Kerang will be hosting a barbecue, with many other surprises planned.

“Come along and see what is on offer at your local library and celebrate this special occasion with us,” Mr Rollinson said.

The Sir John Gorton Library 20th birthday is supported by Gannawarra Flood Recovery Funding.
