Kerang CBD Redevelopment - Stage 3 works continue

Published on 01 August 2023

Work associated with Stage 3 of the Kerang CBD Redevelopment will resume this week, with improvements to occur along Victoria Street between Wellington Street and Victoria Square.

Fully funded by the Federal Government’s Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Program, the $2.31 million project is rejuvenating Kerang’s central business district, expanding on work undertaken by Council over the past six years.

“Victoria Street between Scoresby and Wellington streets is a popular place for residents and visitors, and these planned improvements will provide easier access to shops and new spaces to socialise,” Council Chief Executive Officer, Geoff Rollinson said.

As part of the planned works, paved surfaces along the southeastern side of Victoria Street between Victoria Square and Kerang Sports and Entertainment Venue will be replaced between Friday, 4 August and Friday, 18 August.

“Shoppers and business owners are advised that pedestrian access around work sites will be diverted whilst these improvements occur, however Council will endeavour to keep these disruptions to the shortest possible time period,” Mr Rollinson said.

“The timing of these works will also ensure there is no disruption to the Kerang and District Schools Book Parade, occurring on Friday, 25 August.”

The work will build on recently completed improvements along the northeastern section of Victoria Street, with motorists, shoppers and business owners benefiting from the redesigned footpath and car parking area.

“The improvements completed so far as part of the Kerang CBD Redevelopment have opened up the northern end of Victoria Street, making it very user friendly for shoppers using mobility scooters, strollers and prams. The improved footpath makes this area much safer for people of all abilities,” Kerang Traders president, Bec Hewitt said.

“The area outside the Kerang Post Office will be cooler in summer thanks to the planting of deciduous trees that will provide shade, whilst the autumn colour as these trees lose their leaves will look amazing.”
