Submissions for the Concept designs are now closed

Burnie City Council is working on two exciting projects under the banner of Burnie Beats to find and create the beating heart of Burnie by revitalising the CBD and entries to the city.

The $1.25 million State Government funded pataway / Burnie Gateway Project will assist council to beautify and improve the entrance to the city.

The gateway will instantly identify the entrance to Burnie city, promote a sense of arrival and celebrate Burnie’s unique identity.

Burnie Mayor, Teeny Brumby said, “The gateway will signal the next exciting chapter in Burnie’s story as a step towards creating a new vision for the city’s future, for our local community and our visitors.”

Gateway concept designs have been prepared by two Tasmanian creative teams, Futago and David Hamilton/Geoff Farquhar-Still.

The creative teams ran workshops in April to understand the community’s aspirations, vision and love for their city to assist in the development of the designs.

Mayor Brumby explains, “We want to hear which design the community prefer and why. This is a wonderful opportunity for the people of Burnie to help Council create a new vision and entrance to our city.”

One concept design will be selected taking account of feedback from the public; Council’s appointed CBD Reference Group which includes members of the community; and the Council’s elected members.

The selected creative team will progress their design, build and install the gateway which is expected to be completed by June 2024.

The community are encouraged to come into the Council Office and take a look at the concept designs and provide your feedback.

The concept designs, including 3 dimensional models will be on display in the Council foyer from 30 June – 14 July.
