Significant progress has been made on the Charters Towers Water Park with an anticipated opening date early in the New Year.

The building is up, the big gear is on site, including the play equipment and the underground work all done.

However, the project is being hampered by shortages of trade labour and materials in the final stages of the project.

Councillor Hastie is thrilled that the Water Park is now starting to take shape, ultimately offering a cool space for young families in the region to meet and enjoy the fun activities and playground.

“The final stages to completion have unfortunately been impacted by supply and labour shortages, felt right across the country." said Councillor Hastie.

“Every effort is being made by the contractors to open this much anticipated facility as soon as possible, however realistically, this could still be impacted by weather conditions delays.

Council understands the community are disappointed that the Water Park won’t be open in time to cool off over the Christmas break, which is, unfortunately out of Councils hands.”

By way of compensation, Charters Towers Regional Council are offering free entry every day (weekends included) between 9am and 12 midday into the Kennedy Regiment Memorial Pool all through the Christmas school holiday period.
