It’s the end of the financial year, which means it’s also time to renew your four-legged friend’s registration or register them for the first time.
Council has issued its animal renewal/registration notices for the period 1 July 2022 to 30 June 2023.
Mayor Kerry Hayes said it is a Queensland Government requirement that dogs, aged 12 weeks and over are registered with your local council.
‘This includes new animals to the region, change of ownership or those who may not have been registered in previous financial years,’ he said.
‘Registering your dogs is an important step in keeping them safe in case they escape your yard.
‘It’s not a money grab,’ he adds, ‘it helps our rangers ensure dogs are rightfully returned to their owners and helps fund our animal management facilities, dog parks and education programs.’
Annual registration is $20 for a microchipped and desexed dog, and $30 for a dog that is only microchipped or desexed. Dogs that are not microchipped or desexed are $135.
He also reminded residents that council now has lifetime tags.
‘This means that the tag you received for your dog’s registration renewal last year will not be replaced with a new one this year,’ he said.
Dog registrations are due 1 August 2022, with payment being accepted from today, 1 July 2022.
Non-payment of outstanding registrations will result in enforcement action and on-the-spot fines if your dog is caught wandering.
