Expressions of interest called for Gemfields Planning Study

Posted on May 13, 2022

Central Highlands Regional Council is calling for Gemfields community members to step up and take action as part of the Gemfields Planning Study reference group.

‘This study presents a great opportunity to influence and evolve a safe and sustainable plan for these communities,’ said Mayor Kerry Hayes.

‘It will identify where changes such as land tenure, mining tenure, zoning, or building and infrastructure can be supported to strengthen, grow and support these communities now and into the future.

‘We know local knowledge is expert knowledge, so we encourage existing residents, claim holders, business owners, and graziers to nominate to contribute to this important group.

‘To give this plan the importance it deserves, we will be establishing two groups, including the Project Steering Group (PSG) and Community and Stakeholder Project Reference Group (PRG).

‘This study is a joint initiative from council and the State Government through the Department of Resources to guide a future blueprint for the communities that make up the Gemfields,’ he said.

Expressions of interest are now open and will close 25 May 2022.

You can express your interest by completing the online form on the Have Your Say website or give council a call on 1300 242 686 to register your details.
