Western Downs Regional Council is inviting residents back to its award-winning Parkland to enjoy an afternoon of live music, when Groovin’ in the Garden returns to the region on Saturday 14 May.

The low-cost, family-friendly afternoon will feature a stellar line-up of local and regional musical talents with lawn games, bar facilities, and a variety of food and drink options also available.

Spokesperson for Community and Cultural Development Councillor Kaye Maguire said the returning event would give locals an opportunity to support our region’s musical talent while enjoying a fantastic afternoon in the Parkland with friends and family.

“Here in the Western Downs, it’s the people that make it. Our musical community is a great example of that, which is why we are very excited to once again be hosting some wonderful local musicians to perform for our community in the beautiful surroundings of the Chinchilla Botanic Parkland,” Cr Maguire said.

“You’ll hear some wonderful tunes by one of our 2021 Groovin’ in the Garage winners, Tanya Wittman, as well as regional bands including Splityard Creek from Chinchilla and Katelann Maree from Miles. We are also delighted to be joined by Sunshine Coast band, Palomino III.

“This event was an absolute hit last year so I can’t wait to join our region’s residents and visitors and get involved in our active, vibrant community through a fantastic evening of live music partnered with a variety of local food and drink vendors.”

2021 Groovin’ from the Garage winner, Tanya Wittman, said this was a fantastic opportunity and she’s excited to come together with the local community for what will be a great evening of music.

“This event is a fantastic opportunity to give back and perform for those who had given me their support by voting for me during last year’s Groovin’ in the Garage competition,” Ms Wittman said.

“Events like these are imperative to our local musical community as they provide us with an opportunity to band together and showcase the ‘home-grown’ musical talent we have here in the region. I would like to thank Western Downs Regional Council for providing a platform for us to perform.

“I can’t wait to meet the other performing artists and to come together with our local community. It has been some time since we have had an event like this, and I am looking forward to what the night will bring.”

The event will run from 3.30pm to 8pm with tickets costing $10 per person and free for kids under 13. Tickets must be booked online in advance.

Cash is recommended for the purchase of food and drinks as not all vendors will have eftpos facilities and there is no ATM on site. NO BYO food or drink is allowed into the event.
