Progress continues on Council’s Queens Park Masterplan

Toowoomba residents and visitors will soon have even better facilities to enjoy at Queens Park thanks to further upgrades by Toowoomba Regional Council (TRC).
Stage 7 of TRC’s $12 million Queens Park Masterplan Implementation Project is underway with upgrades to the Vera Lacaze Park now taking shape.
TRC Parks and Recreation Services Portfolio Leader Cr Tim McMahon said the works would improve the already great facilities on offer to park users.
“The Vera Lacaze Park upgrade project is Council’s final step in the Queens Park Masterplan Implementation Project and I’m pleased to see it underway.
“We are grateful for the State Government’s contribution to the project through the Building our Regions fund.
‘Works will include the building of an interpretive shelter, seating and signage based on Toowoomba heritage, BBQ facilities, drinking fountains, more bins, new garden beds and accessible picnic shelters.
“I’m pleased that large elements of the works are about improving and providing greater accessibility to Queens Park for visitors and residents alike.
“Key heritage elements like the original bluestone, fountains and pedestrian bridge will be protected during the works and retained for the upgraded park.
“In addition to improving accessibility to the park, these upgrades will be considerate of the heritage requirements, applicable design and construction standards and regard to public safety,” Cr McMahon said.
The works, which began in April 2022, are expected to be completed in July 2022, weather pending.
