Jam sessions have amped up across the Region as homegrown musicians get ready for the Battle of the Bands in June as part of Live and Local Toowoomba.

Entries are now open for the Eidecan Returns Battle of the Bands with bragging rights and more than $7,000 in prizes up for grabs.

Toowoomba Regional Council (TRC) Environment and Community Services Committee Chair Cr James O’Shea said the Battle of the Bands was the perfect opportunity for the Region’s emerging talent to blaze a trail in the local music scene.

“The Battle of the Bands competition will promote local youth bands and acoustic artists across our region,” Cr O’Shea said.

Hosted by Regional Youth Leaders, the Battle of the Bands will be a standout opportunity for musicians and bands, with a majority of members aged 12 to 25, to showcase their talents. It will give them an opportunity to make industry connections and kickstart their musical careers.

“We already know there are a number of incredibly talented young artists in our Region but we want to create more opportunities for these emerging artists and bring them to new and bigger audiences.

“There’s been a long history of our youth committees hosting live music festivals to showcase our Region’s talents and we’re excited for the 2022 competition which will bring together diverse artists from a wide range of musical backgrounds,” Cr O’Shea said.

Toowoomba youth leader Kerenza Herndon said the many towns of the Region had some amazing young musical talents.

“Sometimes we don’t celebrate these talents enough and this competition gives them a chance to shine and compete for some amazing prizes including a music career package to help them kickstart their journey as professional performers,” Kerenza said.

Applications close May 20, 2022 with the competition to be held on Friday, June 17, 2022.
