Community grants recipients celebrate the announcement of this round’s release

Posted on April 28, 2022

Twenty-four community groups across the Central Highlands will share in more than $166,000 thanks to the Central Highlands Regional Council’s first community grants round for 2022.

The successful applicants were endorsed in the general council meeting on 13 April 2022.

The Springsure Junior Cricket Club received one of nine sports and recreation grants to purchase new equipment for the team.

Springsure local Vivienne Sullivan, secretary and treasurer of the cricket club, is grateful for the funding and excited for their new equipment to arrive.

‘We’re really grateful to council for supporting our local club in Springsure,’ Mrs Sullivan said.

‘We applied for $3,183 from council to purchase a Spinfire Pro-1 Ball bowling machine to help the kids improve their batting skills.’

The machine helps players build confidence in their ability and is game-changing for kids aged eight to 17 years old.

‘The fact that the coaches can now be standing next to the kids when practicing batting to make changes and improvements to player’s form will be fundamental in our club’s development and for the young players within it,’ she continued.

Mayor Kerry Hayes said the volume of high-quality applications made it challenging to be on the panel this year.

‘It’s already been a huge year for community grants with 39 eligible applications received for the first community grant round,’ Mayor Hayes said.

‘It was a tough round to assess with many great applications. Congratulations to all who were successful.

‘Council offers two rounds of community grants each calendar year, and I encourage those who missed out on this round to apply for the second round coming up soon.’

Round 2 will close on 28 August 2022 at 5 pm.

Congratulations to all the recipients of this round’s community grants program. A complete list is below.
