Macedon Ranges Shire Council is inviting community feedback on the draft Asset Plan via online, written or in-person community consultation until 10 May.

Council manages assets on behalf of the community with a value of more than $964 million (excluding land). These assets are used by the community itself or by Council to provide services to the community. They include buildings, roads, bridges, kerbs and gutters, footpaths, cycling tracks and open space and recreation assets. Also included are information communication and technology, stormwater and flood management, and plant, fleet, and equipment.

Under the Victorian Local Government Act 2020, Council must produce and maintain a 10-year asset plan within an Integrated Strategic Planning and Reporting Framework and ensure that the community have input into the asset policy and strategy.

The aim of the Asset Plan is to:

Provide an ongoing commitment to service planning, identifying physical asset needs to support service delivery at a defined level and at an affordable cost. Provide a strategic and financial view of how Council will manage the portfolio of assets that are owned and/or controlled by Council and define high-level strategic asset management priorities. Address all aspects of asset management including maintenance, renewal, acquisition, expansion, and disposal or decommissioning of assets.

Council’s Acting Director of Assets and Operations, Meaghan McNamara, said the draft Asset Plan is an important part of Council’s overall strategic planning and is informed by Council’s other strategic documents including the Community Vision, Council Plan and Financial Plan.

“It is important we have a clear strategic framework and long-term vision regarding the management of community assets to ensure our long-term sustainability and the continuity of services being delivered to the community,” she said.

A copy of the draft Asset Plan can be viewed online or at any of Council’s customer service centres in Gisborne, Kyneton, Romsey or Woodend.

Community consultation will run from 29 March until 10 May and feedback can be provided via:

Community feedback will be incorporated into the final version of the plan to be adopted by Council prior to June 30 2022.
