An exciting program of activities is planned for young people across the Toowoomba Region for Youth Week 2022.

Held from 1 to 11 April, Queensland Youth Week is an annual celebration of young people aged 12 to 25 and everything they contribute to our community.

Toowoomba Regional Council Environment and Community Services Committee chair Councillor James O’Shea said Youth Week was a chance for young people to get together outside of school and other commitments to connect, learn new skills and have some fun.

Hosted by the Regional Youth Leaders, Council’s diverse program of sport, photography workshops and board games gives something for everyone across the Region.

“The Youth Leaders always do a great job developing activities for Youth Week and go to great lengths to make sure that anyone between the ages of 12 and 25 are welcome,” Cr O’Shea said.

Youth Leader Daisy Reynolds loves the fun and laughter that comes with party board games like Werewolf and Unstable Unicorns and sharing it with others.

“Playing games is both relaxing and exciting at the same time, you never know what card you are going to draw or where the game is going to take you,” Daisy said.

“For our games, it doesn’t matter if you are new to them or play each week – we are creating a safe space for everyone to join together.”

For those that are drawn to sporting action they can try their hand at a range of sports, including basketball, soccer and Archery Attack.

Youth Leader Jack Becker said he was especially excited for the basketball activities.

“We’ve invited Pop Dickerson along for the whole program. Pop’s a local legend and it will be amazing to have him there,” Jack said.

Fellow Youth Leader Wageesha Dodampahala said Archery Attack is a team sport with foam-tipped bows and inflatable obstacles.

“It’s an awesome game of tag and teamwork. If you haven’t played before, definitely give it a go,” Wageesha said.
