Burnie Arts and Function Centre executive manager Mark Viner said the re-opening marked an exciting new stage for the regional museum.

“The displays have been dusted off and neatened up, access to the Early Burnie exhibition has been made available through Federation Street, and visitors can see and chat to the Friends of the Burnie Regional Museum.”

"We've done a lot of work," Mr Viner said. "Any facility like this you've got to be constantly looking at it and questioning whether you can improve it, or whether you can showcase different things from the collection to tell different stories."

Burnie City Council Mayor Steve Kons said seeing the venue re-open was "a fantastic outcome" for Burnie. "We started talking to representatives of the volunteers early on about this model," he said.

"They jumped on board, and it was great to have a community group that was originally skeptical... become supportive and have this great outcome."
