Big Summer Read begins

Published on 01 December 2021

The Gannawarra Library Service’s Big Summer Read program begins today, with primary school children who participate in the running to win gift vouchers worth $100 from stores such as Toy World and Smiggle.

The initiative, supported by Public Libraries Victoria and runs through to Monday, 31 January 2022, aims to keep children engaged in reading during the summer school holidays.

“The Big Summer Read program is set to be a popular edition to the Gannawarra Library Service’s program of events these summer holidays, evident by the number of children who have already registered to participate,” Gannawarra Shire Council Chief Executive Officer, Tom O’Reilly said.

“The program is a fun way for children to build on literacy skills developed during the school year, which is achieved by children reading books they have at home or from Gannawarra Library Service’s collection.”

To participate, children need to register online at the Beanstack website, located at https://plv.beanstack.org.

“All books read during the program can be recorded via the Beanstack website or by downloading the Beanstack app, which is available from the Apple App or Google Play stores,” Mr O’Reilly said.

“Families who need assistance with registering or recording the books read are encouraged to contact their local Gannawarra Library Service branch.

“The more you read, the more chances you have to win.”
