New exhibition lands at Wyndham Art Gallery

Wyndham Art Gallery is proud to announce TREATY a new art exhibition opening on 5 August and running until 17 October.

TREATY presents the work of six First Nations artists for whom sovereignty is fundamental to their creative work and lives.

It features artwork by Dr Paola Balla, Gina Bundle, Peter Waples-Crowe, Aunty Marlene Gilson, Coree Thorpe, Kait James and Laura Thompson.

The exhibition features a variety of mediums, including possum skin pelt, earrings, paintings, digital prints and wallpaper.

Wyndham Council’s Creative City portfolio holder, Cr Marcel Mahfoud, said: “We are delighted that Wyndham Art Gallery is leading the way in exhibiting contemporary exhibitions.”

“The TREATY exhibition presenting works that explore first Nations people’s perspectives and responses.”

This exhibition is presented against a backdrop of work being undertaken by the State Government as it negotiates a Treaty with a number of First Nations clans across Victoria.

TREATY is guest curated by Wemba-Wemba Gunditjmarra artist, curator and academic Dr Paola Balla.

Come and immerse yourself in this emotive and thought-provoking exhibition that explores first Nations people’s perspectives and thoughts through art. The exhibition is open daily from Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm and on weekends; Saturday and Sunday from 11am to 4pm.
