Athletics Club and EPIC take on Burnie Ten

Burnie City Council are excited to announce that the future of the Burnie Ten has been secured with the Burnie Athletic Club (BAC) and EPIC Events & Marketing Pty Ltd committing to manage and run the event on Council’s behalf.

Burnie City Council Mayor Steve Kons said “This is a perfect example of the type of outcome we had planned and hoped for when Council announced that it had decided to change the way it delivers a number of services to the community.

“Council has run an annual calendar of community events over the years which included the Burnie Ten, however it decided not to continue to operate its own events and instead partner with art and cultural organisations; professional event management companies and community groups to fund the provision of events throughout the year. This agreement is the first of many we hope to make to ensure that the traditional event calendar will change and evolve to keep events in Burnie fresh and attractive – we look forward to BAC and EPIC bringing fresh eyes and experience to the Burnie Ten.”

Founded in 2015, EPIC Events & Marketing Pty Ltd began its journey managing media for Triathlon South at the annual Seven Mile Beach Triathlon. Today they are proud owners of Tasmania's largest fun run, Hobart Run the Bridge, and Launceston's largest fun run, Launceston Running Festival.

EPIC have significant experience in co-staging events, working with Athletics Tasmania to deliver the Cadbury Marathon each year, Athletics NT with the NT Santos City2Surf and the Darwin Cycling Club with the Sunbuild Top End Gran Fondo.

Managing Director of EPIC Events & Marketing, Richard Welsh said “When I started EPIC over 6 years ago, I thought it would be ideal to manage major fun runs in the South, North and North West of Tasmania. Now that’s a reality, it’s exciting to get down to business and inspire as many people as possible to participate in the Burnie Ten.

“We’re excited to partner closely with the Burnie Athletic Club. I’ve built a wonderful relationship with them in our role as promoter of the Tasmanian Christmas Carnivals since 2015 and they’re one of the most capable, reliable and enthusiastic volunteer groups I’ve had the pleasure of working with”.

President of the BAC Gary Munro said it’s an exciting chapter for the historical club.

“This affiliation with EPIC to deliver the iconic Burnie Ten fits right in the wheelhouse of our mission, to promote, organise and control events. We’re also grateful to the Burnie City Council for the opportunity to be custodians of such a well-known event as the Burnie Ten,” Mr Munro said.

A preliminary date of 24 October has been pencilled in for the 2021 Burnie Ten, to be confirmed shortly.

Following the 2023 edition of the event, ownership of the event will transfer to EPIC/BAC subject to the agreement of the parties.
