Successful grant applicants of Round 2 of Council's Community Development Grants were endorsed by Council during the Ordinary Meeting on Wednesday, 26 May 2021.

Grant information sessions were held in early February 2021. 30 people from 28 local community organisations attended the sessions. Each of the applicants were assessed against the eligibility and assessment criteria of councils Community Development Grants Guidelines. The ten successful applicants were then endorsed in the ordinary meeting.

A total of $51,111 was awarded to ten projects across the three grant categories.

The three categories were Community Projects, Organisational Development, and Facilities Development. Below are the successful community groups and their projects.

Facilities Development: • Kilkivan Veteran's and Community Men's Shed – Construction of a disability car park • Goomeri Golf Club – Installation of a solar power system • Cooloola Coast Kart Club – Purchase of a on-track safety lighting system • Cooloola BMX Club - Installation of foam post pads for finish line pillars and notice board • Gunalda District Campdraft Association - Tree lopping and pruning

Community Projects: • Gympie Medical Transport - Contribution for an additional vehicle • Little Haven Cooloola/Sunshine Coast Palliative Care - Market Place Security System • Cooloola Shire State Emergency Service Support Group – Air-conditioning of the Imbil SES Building

Organisational Development: • Tin Can Bay Sailability – First-aid course for volunteers • Tin Can Bay Fishing Club – Upskill Treasurer and other members to assist in the mandatory annual audit

Councillor Dolly Jensen said the Community Development grants are a helping hand for many local groups.

“It’s a really good thing that we [council] can help out our local community groups with additional funding that they may not have access to normally.

"I encourage all community groups to attend grant information sessions, especially the grant writing sessions. It’s not always an easy thing to do, but it’s comforting to know council are here to assist through the whole process.” She said.

The endorsed recommendations totalled $51,111 which was within the allocated budget for Round 2.
