Kyneton Town Hall facade works to restore heritage value

Restoration works to the Kyneton Town Hall facade are set to commence in May, thanks to a significant contribution from the Australian Government’s Local Roads and Community Infrastructure program.

Macedon Ranges Shire Council received $1,441,261 through the fund, allocating $632,989 to the restoration of the Kyneton Town Hall facade, including the installation of feature lighting. Council is also funding an additional $300,000 to undertake targeted restoration works to the chimneys, window eaves, gutters and stormwater.

Improvements to the Kyneton Town Hall exterior facade will complement and enhance the heritage aesthetic of the Kyneton township streetscape and ensure the longevity of the Kyneton Town Hall.

Shane Waldron, Director Assets and Operations, said that works would be undertaken to a high standard and ensure the façade remains true to character.

“This is an important project to preserve the Kyneton Town Hall. The work includes repairs to various architectural elements and to restore heritage value.”

“Heritage architects will oversee the works on the facade. Council’s heritage advisor has approved aesthetic considerations, including paint colours, to ensure the history of this building is respected and enhanced.”

Works may disrupt pedestrian movement at the front of the building, and alternate routes will be signed.

Improvements to the building’s facade will contribute to the continued use of the Kyneton Town Hall as a vibrant cultural hub. The new exterior lighting will highlight the Kyneton Town Hall as a prominent heritage building in Kyneton.

The Australian Government Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and Communications are funding the works through the Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Program Works.
