Council thanks its valuable volunteers

Gannawarra Shire Council would like to thank its valuable group of dedicated volunteers for the outstanding work they do in the community.

National Volunteer Week, which begins today and will run to Sunday, 23 May, celebrates the significant contribution of the close to six million Australians who volunteer their time to support their communities.

“This year’s theme for National Volunteer Week is Recognise. Reconnect. Reimagine, which has never been more evident following the events of 2020,” Council Chief Executive Officer, Tom O’Reilly said.

“Council’s dedicated group of volunteers continue to return to supporting some of our key community services following the easing of COVID-19 restrictions, which our staff and those who benefit from these services are grateful for.”

Community volunteers play a key role in supporting various Council-led programs, including the Gannawarra Non-Emergency Transport Service, L2P Learner Driver Mentor Program, Meals on Wheels and the Gateway to Gannawarra Visitor Centre.

“Whether it is helping our young people gain valuable driving experience, transporting residents to medical appointments, delivering a hot meal to residents or helping visitors with tourism enquiries, our volunteers are the face of the Gannawarra,” Mr O’Reilly said.

“Council thanks our volunteers for their support and looks forward to hosting a morning tea to recognise the contribution they make to the community in July.”
