Winter dog restrictions come into effect from 1 April, with greater off-leash access for our four-legged friends on beach and foreshore areas.

The seasonal changes aim to balance the needs of dog owners with beachgoers over the quieter cooler months. Restrictions vary from beach to beach.

Dogs must be on a leash at all times unless in a designated off-leash area during specific times.

There are 34 off-street areas in Bayside where you can walk your dog.

The timing of on and off-leash restrictions during the cooler months vary between locations so check your favourite walking spot here.

Dog owners must remain in effective control of their pet at all times. Effective control means you can recall your dog with voice commands and/or they are within arms-reach and constant sight to be restrained if necessary.

Dog owners must also carry a chain, cord or leash sufficient to bring the dog under control if it behaves in a threatening manner towards any person or animal and ensure it does not worry, rush at, threaten or attack any person or animal.

Dog owners must also pick after their dog, with more than 29 doggie bag dispensers located across Bayside, dispensing 1.8 million bags each year.

Reminder

Pet registrations are due for renewal on 10 April 2021.
