Waste transfer shed closure due to Asbestos

UPDATE 3:10pm - Burnie Waste Management Centre will be closed for the rest of today.

Please be advised that the Burnie Waste Management Centre waste transfer shed is closed to allow staff and specialist contractors to clean up after asbestos was found in a load earlier today.

The Burnie Waste Management Centre is open 7 days a week and accepts domestic quantities of asbestos for disposal BUT in the interest of health and safety the follow steps MUST be followed:

You must let us know that you are coming, call the Waste Management Centre on 03 6430 5834 before you arrive, our friendly Toll Both operators know all about asbestos removal and will give you tips to help keep us all safe Ensure the asbestos has been dampened to reduce dust emission Double wrap the asbestos in heavy duty plastic and seal with tape Label the package 'Caution - Asbestos' Drop it off in the designated skip at the Waste Management Centre

Council will advise when the shed is re-opened. 

As a result of this incident the Waste Management Centre will not be able to accept asbestos this weekend.
