Overhanging Trees
Sorell Council 28 Jan 2021
Have you cut back your vegetation?

Many people use our footpaths including postal workers, joggers, school children, people with disabilities, parents with prams and the elderly. To prevent obstruction and injury to people, a clear height of 2.5 metres above the footpath is required to allow people to pass safely underneath. All trees on your property need to be pruned to 2.5 metres above the footpath or back to your boundary line. All foliage and vegetation needs to be trimmed back to your boundary line. It also should not obstruct street signs or interfere with traffic flow or essential service infrastructure such as powerlines.

As part of your waste management charge, Council provides all residents in the municipality a monthly green-waste collection. If you have pruned or trimmed back your vegetation, we encourage you to utilise this collection service.

Please ensure that your green waste is:

Placed on a tarp, in an open rigid container or tied in bundles (NO plastic bags or boxes please). Less than 1.5 metres in length. No thicker than 20cm in diameter. A maximum of 2 cubic metres (small trailer load).

If your waste is not pre-booked or does not comply with the size or material requirements, it will not be collected.

Bookings for green waste are required no later than 12 noon on the Friday prior to your scheduled collection week. To book your collection in go to the bookings page on our website here, use the ‘My Local Services’ App or phone 6269 0000 and select option 3.
