Sale of Old Tioxide Site to TasNetworks

Published on 21 January 2021

Council confirmed in December 2020 that it had sold the Old Tioxide Site in Heybridge to TasNetworks to assist in the progression of the Marinus Link project.

As the contract has now settled, Council is in the position to advise that the sale price of the land of $1.8 million was based on an independent market valuation, and that a further benefit for the Burnie community has been negotiated with the securing of a Community and Education Fund of $400,000 to be provided by TasNetworks over 10 years to assist our community.

The Marinus Link interconnector is expected to unlock significant economic benefits to Tasmania while providing a secure renewable energy supply to mainland Australia.

Council has owned the old Tioxide site for many years, and had been receiving commercial rent prior to the sale.
