Huonville CCTV project

The Huon Valley Council works in collaboration with Tasmania Police to reduce the number of offences that they record for the Huon Valley and increase the liveability standard for our people.

As part of this goal, we are installing a CCTV network in Huonville to help reduce anti-social behaviour and crime in the area, and support safer and more active public spaces.

The cameras will be installed in places that have been identified as hotspots for offences:

This network of cameras will provide CCTV coverage of the Huonville CBD and the Huonville Recreation Area, also covering the Main Street corridor from Heron Street to the Huonville Bridge.

“Council sees the CCTV network as a priority because we know it will help our local Police in their work to make the Huon Valley a safer place to live,” said Huon Valley Council Mayor Bec Enders.

“The CCTV network will bring significant health and wellbeing benefits for the local community in a time when everyone needs a bit more support and to feel safe.

“We are not taking a singular focus on Huonville with this project. There is a broader benefit for residents’ safety in other towns too, as vehicles will often travel through Huonville to get to surrounding towns.

“Reducing anti-social behaviour and crime in Huonville and having the ability to identify vehicles and their drivers will make our community safer and help reduce concerns about personal and driver safety and vandalism that impacts our community and personal assets.

“Please remember though, we all have a responsibility to report anti-social and criminal behaviour and you can do this anonymously by phoning Crime Stoppers Tasmania on 1800 333 000.

“Our local Police need our help and prompt action to report these unwanted behaviours in our community. Together we can make the Huon Valley the most liveable place in Tasmania.”

Council thanks the Australian Government for funding this project through the Local Roads and Community Infrastructure grants program, as well as Bendigo Bank who has also provided funds to complete the project.
