‘Burnie Shines’ for the 20th time this October!

Burnie is once again gearing up for the much anticipated month long festival of community events that is Burnie Shines; proudly presented by the Burnie City Council on behalf of the Burnie community and we are all invited to be part of it!

The annual Burnie Shines Festival is synonymous with a celebration of sunshine, the blossoming of spring flowers, new life and hope. Experiencing spring in North West Tasmania is one of the real joys of living here.

Burnie City Council Mayor Steve Kons said “The Burnie Shines festival celebrates 20 years and with a new look logo designed by High School student Macy Poke and a website which looks back and celebrates past Burnie Shines Programs and Featured Artists.

This years’ Burnie Shines Featured Artist – Joanna Gair, will present an exhibition spanning 20 years of her multi-award winning artwork. Joanna said “It was really wonderful to pause for a moment to acknowledge my creative and technical development throughout the chronology...as artists I don’t think we do this enough. I’ve come to the conclusion that I make art like a craftsperson and craft like a visual artist (I probably paint like a papermaker and make paper like a painter too!).”

Once again, Burnie will offer great music in October with performances by the Burnie Concert Band with a Concert in the Car Park, Jazz is back at the Townhouse and Burnie Shines Melodies is at the Arts & Function Centre. We are also excited about the new Burnie Shines Mega Live Stream which will be presented by RMS & The Electric Jam Hub.

Exhibitions are an integral part of the Burnie Shines program and this year we present 12 different exhibitions for you to explore: Exhibitions can be found at the Burnie Regional Art Gallery, Studio 2Eleven (Burnie Coastal Art Group), The Makers’ Space Gallery.

As COVID restrictions start to ease, what better time to get out to experience some of the many events on offer.
