Ipswich to host statewide softball tournament

15 September 2020

Hundreds of Queensland softball players, supporters and officials will be heading to Ipswich this month for the 2020 Softball Queensland Under 14 Girl’s State Championships.

Ipswich Softball Association will host the three-day competition at One Mile.

Mayor Teresa Harding said that she was delighted that this year’s tournament would be held in Ipswich.

“This event will bring our sport-loving community together, while also delivering a welcome boost to our local economy, as visitors explore our heritage city and enjoy our region’s great range of restaurants, hotels and local shops.”

“Our local businesses are as excited about rolling out the red carpet for our visitors, as the softball players are to hit the pitch,” Mayor Harding said.

Softball Queensland CEO Ross Symonds said the highly anticipated event would be especially popular now, after it was postponed from its original date in April due to COVID-19.

“We’re thrilled to have these teams competing at this year’s event, and look forward to three fantastic days of competition, thanks to the kind cooperation of the Ipswich Softball Association and the support from the Ipswich City Council,” Mr Symonds said.

“Softball Queensland is proud to bring the championships to the Ipswich Region following on from the successful 2019 Open Women’s State Championships.

“We sincerely thank the City of Ipswich for their continuing support for softball in the region and this event.”

The 2020 Softball Queensland Under 14 Girl’s State Championship will be played over three days from Friday 25 September to Sunday 27 September.

Teams competing in the tournament include Townsville, Hervey Bay, Mackay, Mt Isa, Toowoomba, Redcliffe, Redlands, Brisbane and Ipswich.
