Keysborough South Community Hub gets Green Light

20 August 2020

Greater Dandenong Council has endorsed revised design plans for the Keysborough South Community Hub based on extensive community feedback.

The Hub, to be built on the corner of Chapel and Villiers roads in Keysborough, will now undergo a detailed design process.

The draft design for the Keysborough South Community Hub was recently released for public comment and generated a high level of interest and excitement within the community. Following careful consideration of all submissions received, the design was then amended to accommodate a number of changes, resulting in the eastern / community wing of the building being extended by a total of 104sqm.

The majority of this growth has occurred in the community lounge to cater for an expanded outreach library service, additional work / study areas and informal gathering space to support a potential café service at peak times. A Makers Space for arts and craft activities has also been included, in addition to a universal access baby change room and storage area.

According to Mayor Cr Jim Memeti, Council carefully considered all submissions received during the consultation process. “Council was grateful to receive so much input on the draft plans and made a number of changes in response to community feedback. This is a venue which has long been sought after by Keysborough South residents, so it was critical to us that it meet their needs into the future.

“We are very excited to be providing the community with such a beautiful new facility on their doorstep”, added Mayor Memeti.

The design builds on previous planning and consultation undertaken over recent years and incorporates the unique attributes of the chosen site. It will include community meeting and activity rooms, a multifunctional community lounge, community kitchen, kindergarten and child care rooms, consulting suites for maternal and child health services, as well as outdoor play and seating areas.

Further consultation for the community playground is proposed to take place in late 2020, with construction of the hub to commence by mid-2021.
