MBRC planned burn update

We’ll be conducting our last week of planned burn for the season from 24 August to 30 August (weather permitting).

Planned burns, also known as hazard reduction or prescribed burns, are undertaken during low risk periods. The aim of planned burns is to reduce ground fuel and lessen the impact of bushfires, reduce the threat to life and assets, while also protecting and enhancing the diversity and abundance of native plants and animals.

Monday 24 August Site: Buckleys Hole Conservation Park, 2- 30 Tully Street, Bongaree. Size: 2.4ha Timings: Ignition will commence mid-morning and will be completed early afternoon. Crews will be onsite into the evening to ensure site is blacked out.

Monday 24 August Site: Cocos Close Park, 30 Cavanagh Place, Ningi. Size: 3ha Timings: Ignition will commence mid-morning and will be completed early afternoon. Crews will be onsite into the evening to blackout. Crews will return on Wednesday to complete blacking out

Tuesday 25 August Site: Lottie Place Reserve, 1 Lottie Place, Cashmere. Size: 9ha Timings: Ignition will commence mid- morning and will be completed mid-afternoon. Crews will be onsite into the night blacking out and patrolling. Crews will be onsite Tuesday and Wednesday to continue to patrol and blackout.

Wednesday 26 August Site: Fred Rohlf Park, Lot 900 Whiteside Road, Samsonvale. Size: 19ha Timings: Ignition will commence mid- morning and will be completed mid-afternoon. Crews will be onsite into the night blacking out and patrolling. Crews will be Friday and Saturday to continue to patrol and blackout.

Wednesday 26 August Site: Vermillion Avenue Reserve, 2 Vermillion Avenue, Griffin Size: 6ha Timings: Ignition will commence mid-morning and will be completed early afternoon. Crews will be onsite into the evening to blackout. Crews will return on Thursday to complete blacking out.

Thursday 27 August Site: McDowall’s Road Reserve, Lot 1 McDowall’s Road, Closeburn. Size: 73ha Timings: Ignition will commence mid-morning and will be completed early evening. Crews will remain onsite into the night. Crews will be onsite Thursday and Friday to continue to patrol and blackout.

Friday 28 August Site: Mount Mee Sportsground, 7 Thomas Road, Mount Mee. Size: 3ha Timings: Ignition will commence mid-morning and will be completed early afternoon. Crews will be onsite into the evening to blackout. Crews will return on Saturday to blackout and patrol

Saturday 29 August Site: Timbergrove Road Park, 499 Old Gympie Road, Elimbah Size: 30ha Timings: Ignition will commence mid-morning and will be completed late afternoon. Crews will be onsite Sunday and Monday to complete patrol and blackout.

Nearby residents with asthma or sensitivities to smoke should close their windows and doors and keep medications close by. Motorists are urged to take care on the roads.
