Free workouts and tech help for Ipswich Seniors

14 August 2020

Keeping your mind and body active is crucial for good health, particularly as we age.

Ipswich City Council offers a range of free programs and services for senior citizens, including the Active Seniors program and the Be Connected program through Ipswich Libraries.

The Active Seniors program offers a range of free physical activity classes for the over 60’s community each week, including yoga, aqua fitness, strength and fitness and Tai Chi and Qigong.

Ipswich Libraries’ Be Connected Initiative provides technical assistance, workshops and training to get older residents online and build their confidence.

Deputy Chairperson of the Community, Culture, Arts and Sport committee, Councillor Kate Kunzelmann, said that Council is committed to delivering a range of services to keep Ipswich Seniors active and connected.

“We have a vibrant and engaged over-60’s community in Ipswich and Council is ensuring that services delivered to this group have a positive impact on their health,” Cr Kunzelmann said.

“Whether it’s catching up with friends in the park for a yoga class, or getting a little extra help in learning how to use your new smartphone, programs like these help keep our community connected with their loved ones and those around them.”

Active Seniors

All classes are instructed by qualified Personal Trainers and fitness professionals and are at various parks and swim centres across the city.

Bookings are compulsory to keep everyone safe and adhere to a Covid-Safe plan. Please don’t turn up to the activity if you or any members of your household are unwell.

Be Connected

There are several ways you can access support to improve your technical skills online, learn more about how to use your tablet, smartphone or computer.

Join the Ipswich Libraries Be Connected program and choose the type of support you’d prefer. You can – Chat with a team member (in person or over the phone) – Attend a group workshop (face-to-face or online) – Request a group visit at your venue or at the library

Our experienced library staff will show you how the Be Connected program works, identify your specific needs and answer all of your questions.

You can also join a Zoom party on August 20 to celebrate Seniors Week over a video chat with other seniors and learn more about the benefits of the Be Connected Program.
